tach question help please???

Hi,

1990 Evinrude 90 hp on a Glastron V162 Futura. WOT rpms are only about 5000 rpms; however, I called Teleflex tech support the other day and the guy said some of those motors required the tach to be set at 5p instead of 6p, depending on the stator. Does this sound right? The motor sounds like it's really screaming at wot; last night, I changed the setting on the tach to 5p, and now it will read well over 5500 rpm and beyond if I really pushed it. Idle rpms remained the same, about 800 rpms. Thanks for the help.

well over 5000, you are only putting wear and abuse on the engine, as it acquires it's optium HP at 5000.

Hi tashasdaddy,

I thought wot on that motor is 5500-5800 rpm, and anything under that would be "lugging?" Please advise--I don't want to kill my motor. Also, do you know anything about the variation in tach settings based on a particular stator?
