Tach stops at 2K?

Hi,
I have a 1983 60hp evinrude and the tach stops at 2K I have it on the 6P position and hooked to the yellow stator wire on the terminal block. Any Ideas are apperciated. It's a teleflex tach.

You have to hook it to the gray wire, located at, or in the controll box.If you are hooked at the wire panel on the engine, use the yellow gray wire. That is where the gray wire to the box is hooked.
