Tach wires for 150hp Merc.

Does anybody know what wires hook to where on my 1983 150Hp merc. I went out wth a friend this weekend and he thinks my tach is hooked up wrong because he thinks it's reading to high! It reads about 1500 at idel but it doesnt sound like it's running but about 600-700!! Thanks!!

You might have the tach setting on the back wrong.. theres like 4 different to choose from
