Purchased an Aqua Meter tach (model 636) which was suppose to be for my 1974 electric start Mercury 50hp Thunderbolt motor. It tach did not have any pulse adjustments so all I could do is connect the Brown and Black wires to the remote control. Not an expert so excuse any incorrect terms. Once I tried to start the motor the tach needle showed full rpm and would not start. I unplugged the harness and the motor started right up. It's obvious that I am either missing something, or I wired it incorrectly, or it will not work for my motor. Anyone have any ideas? Is there something I need in between the wiring harness and remote control?
