I have a '92 70hp evinrude. The tach has never worked. Turn the key on, it goes to zero. While the motor is running, it doesn't register. I have a duel battery switch with only one battery hooked up. While the engine was running my kid switched the switch to the off position and the tach is now pegged at 7000rpm, or in other words, that's where the needle sits when the motor is not running. Rectifier was replaced two days ago after this happened.
