Tachometer interchange

I have 3 spare tachs, from a v-4 omc 2 stroke, v-6 Merc 2 stroke, and a 4-stroke 4 cyl I/o Chev. Will any of these work on a 2 cyl omc ob{48 SPL]? My local Tech. says no,but the West Marine catalog shows same part no. for ob and i/o 2 and 4 strokes in general. From the way I thought tachs work, I would have thought tachs would not interchange between different nos. of cyls, but now I am not sure. Don't want to buy another one if I don't have to.

Re: Tachometer interchange

'morning scmasondr (Dr?),

there are several guys here who can tell you exactly how to do what your asking. Sorry to say that I'm not one of them (yet).

Sufice-it-to-say that the tach relates rpm to the number of poles on your charging system AND many tachs are designed such that you can select the number of poles that you will be using it with.

Hang around a while. I'm sure that someone will be along soon, who can give you a better answer

Good Luck
HAVE FUN!

Re: Tachometer interchange

klondike7 is correct about the # of poles. If you have a selector on the back for poles and can set it to "6" Pole, it will work on your motor.
