Tachometer not working correctly

I recently changed to a 2001 Yamaha 70 hp motor on my 15' Skeeter bass boat. The tachometer (new) reads fine until 2000 rpms and then goes back to 0 if the throttle is advanced any further. I was told the new tach was faulty so I returned it for another and it does the same thing. I have it set on 3P.

Any ideas?

Sounds like your loosing the connection some where. Have you check (nad by checked i mean ran a different one) the wire from the tach to where ever it hooks to on the engine?
Try running one just loose across the deck to by pass the old one and see if that works. If it does then there is the problem. if not then thats one more thing tha isnt the problem.

Aslo check the rest of the wiring connections while your there.
