I will be installing a tach, speed, volt, and fuel instruments in my boat. I want to turn the backlights on and off on the instruments.
The Volt has a + and - for the light but the tach, Fuel, speed does not. They also say they energize from the ignition switch.

How is this wired can you help?

Instruments are Faria Pro Red.

Re: Tachometer wiring up

Realgun, some gauges don't have a seperate circurt for the lights if thats the case your stuck with it, some you can remove a bond strap and add another wire to and seperate the circurts and I know of one guy that went into the area where the bulbs pluged in and altered the circurt there, keep in mind that voids the warrenty---Bob

Hi Realgun,
From the manual links you posted, they show a lamp connection as a blade terminal. The ground connection is a stud, that will be common for the instrument circuit as well as the lamp circuit. Wire the blade terminal to the light switch and the instrument "+" to the ignition switch and you should be good to go.

The answer to your question is no you don't want to do that as the instruments will only work when you turn the light switch on.

Re: Tachometer wiring up

Let me ask this then.
Battery is on the guage and ignition is showing on that post.
So does that mean the ignition/battery mean +12V?
If so does that means there are 2 circuits with a common ground?

Hopefully yes.

I might just call Faria.

Laddie you need to have a place that hosts the pictures first.
There are lotsa free sites.
You will need to upload your picture(s) to that site.
If you can see those picture you should be able to post them here.
Shareaproject is cool look at my signature. then
Click full reply form.
Then you need to click IMAGE lower left column.
In this box you will need the address of the picture some sites have a button you need to press and it will give you the address so you can post to autions etc. Copy this address to the box.
I removed the pic thank you.
And then click add reply. I highly suggest you just post a link to the picture as it will be easier on the people with dialup to view the post.
Here is the slide show view of my ongoing saga. Loads of pictures and not taking space up here.
