I need a tach that i can use just for servicing outboards. Anyone know of a universal tach that will work on most outboards? I have 3 different motors. Ones a 4 cyl, a 3 cyl and a 2 cyl.

I just bought a Teleflex one for my boat. It's universal (you set the # of pulses on the back and there's also a cal srew.)

Re: tachometer

Thanks for the info, but I'm looking for one like an automotive analyzer. Something I can clip on, not permanent mount.

Re: tachometer

If anyone's interested, Matco Tools sell a digital multimeter that has a tachometer function. Works on 2 and 4 stroke motors and up to 12 cylinders. A little pricy but you work on a lot of different motors quite handy.

If it says matco, it is pricy. They sell $50 pliers. My friends neighbor is a dealer. If your really want to know, I can ask him what they go for.
