I am extremely new to gimbal bearing removal/installation... I just received the gimbal bearing along with bellows, gimbal installer and alignment tool... I have a slide hammer to remove it... Is there anyone that has a step by step instructions on how to remove and install gimbal bearing??? What else do I need?

This is what I bought:

Re: Tackling Gimbal Bearing

Do you have access to a maintenance manual for this outdrive (although it is an OMC you might find an online version in the 'stickies' at the top of the OMC forum)

That will give you a step-by-step.

Marine engines are only scary the first time you work on them, thereafter, they are just the typical pain in the a--.

Basically, you are going to pull the gimbal bearing, put the new one in

Replace the u-joints, grease them

Check the engine alignment, adjust as needed.

re-install the outdrive

Test everything

Go boating.

Re: Tackling Gimbal Bearing

So I just got the boat back together and it sounds like everything is now running smoother.. I no longer have any noise coming from the outdrive... My only concern is I don't know if it is done correctly anything I should check to be sure.... the gimbal is flush inside the housing..
