juat got back from vacation and had sadness when props are mentioned.
have a 1974 mecurser 165 that runs like a top.
was running a 15" 17" pitch and it worked just right for wot throttle.
any way it was chipped and in not the best shape and you could see where the tips had been built up. i hit a log and broke a 3/8x1" of the tips of 2 blades.
this caused a vibration and had to swap to spare that was on boat when i bought it. got up to 18 mph and rpm went to 5000+ rpm and dropped mph.
spun hub.
there were 2 marinas at the lake and one had a merc black max flo-troq $186 out the door ready to install. the other ahd had a MWC 16"x16 $182 + tax and new nut and keeper. they told me this was a direct replacemt for my 15x17 and 15x19 merc props, how so?
they wouldnt let my try it or return or excange it for another prop if it didnt work, this was the only prop thay had that would fit my boat.
i went with the merc and am very happy smoother and rpm range just what i had before.
did i make a mistake not trying the MWC prop and how can the 16x16 prop cover two merc prop sizes? is the quality any better on the MWC?

if your boat likes the prop you bought don't worry about it....

I can't see how a 16x16 prop can be a direct replacement for a 15x17 or 15x19

From the sounds of it You did good .....Have fun

Remember some have not been so Lucky and have 4-5 props layin around

After owning and running a few of both, I really prefer the Merc. props over the Michigan props, unless you're looking for a clunky power prop for a heavy boat, the Merc is more like an all around performance prop, you did good!
