morning, I have a 79'evinrude 55 hp, ,that has been in a covered garage for about 3 years, not used... its in good shape,,,,I used the muffs and got new fuel and sea foam, and hooked it up and it started up and idled fine. My question is, what else might I do, or look for,, I plan on taking it out this afternoon on the lake and see how it really runs. Should I idle for awhile before I start adding any power or does it matter>?.. any suggestions would be very helpful,, 1st time boat and motor owner.

Clean the carbs so we dont run the risk of sticking a piston.

Install a water pump kit so we dont run the risk of overheating the motor and sticking a piston.

Take compression now just to establish a baseline.
