I am taking apart my Volvo Penta 3.0 to find out what broke after I overheated it. We have ripped everything down to the head & are taking the head off this weekend. I'm fully expecting to find the head gasket blown between the 2 & 3 cylinders. What else should I be looking for while we are in there? I know obvious cracks and what not.

Also, we took off the rocker arms & pins (they look good), do we have to get a spring compressor and take off the valve springs, or can we leave them?

Leave the valves in the head. If you do have issue take complete head to a qualified machine shop. 'nutcase
