Heat gun and a wood paint stick. The heat gun will get the numbers hot and you can peel them off with the wood stick (will not gouge the gel coat). Then use wax and grease remover to clean off the residue.

The fastest and easiest way I found was a pinstripe eraser. It is a round eraser looking thing that attatches to a drill. I tried the heat gun method and several other methods and although they worked, it took me hours to remove small sections. The eraser took no time at all. Took closer to 5 minutes to do what was taking an hour or more.

Local sign shop or artist supply store should have a plastic "blade" like tool called a burnishing tool. You use it to burnish decals on, but you can also use it to get the edges of a decal off the surface. Once you get that edge up, you can apply a little heat, pull straight back (almost fold the decal over on itself) and go slow. When it tears, grab that blade and get another edge going. Rinse and repeat until the decal is off.

Unless the decal is REALLY brittle that should be the easiest way to get it off without damaging anything.

WD40 ,pull the vinyl if you can and then rub some of this lube, maybe let it soak a few seconds...it's about the only good use for otherwise one of the worst things ever invented.

+1 on the WD40. I work in the graphics business and that's a great way to get the sticky gunk off that decals leave behind.

Before trying it, try it in a small area to make sure it doesn't hurt the finish - but I had great luck with brake cleaner. Not the environmentally friendly version, just plain brake cleaner. Sprayed it on a rag, two swipes across the stickies left behind and they were gone.

That sounds pretty good--will try that. Thanks a bunch.

+1 I bought a 3m one at Advance Auto and it worked great for taking decals and numbers off my 43 year Lund aluminum boat.
