Taking Water On

I recently purchased a '78 Grady White 20' Gulfstream. I rebuilt the engine (Mercruiser IL6) and put it in the water for the first time this past w/e. I noticed I was taking on a little bit of water, enough that the automatic switch activated the bilge pump. When I pulled the boat out of the water on to the trailer I saw water coming out of the boat from the drain plug area. The drain plug seems tight. When I removed the drain plug and stuck my finger in the hole from the outside, the hole seemed to be bigger on the inside, like it was rotted out. I was thinking of drilling the hole out bigger and epoxying in a piece of PCV pipe to accepte a new plug. Any other ideas?

Re: Taking Water On

I would replace the plug with a new brass though hull and screw in plug. Check the area around the plug for rot and damage from the leak and repair with epoxy if required.
