tap size T.M.D. or anyone

what size tap would I need to put thread insert in head of 50 h/p merc the insert will screw on to the plug. its a 14mm. Would the tap be 14.25 mm btw this is a spark plug hole i am talking about

Depends on who made the insert. Heli-coil, and keen-sert comes with tap.

14 is right.<br /><br />You will have to oversize the hole and then put orignal size threads back in.<br /><br />TMD

It seems like CLANTON is giving the right steer on this. These inserts come with-or have available- the correct, $PECIALLY $ized tap. I'd mainly like to pass along that I've had lousy results with any solid inserts. Unless they're keyed, they won't stay put. You can hardly put a key arrangement into a combustion chamber!! <br />The HELICOILS are perfectly trouble-free, even in steel.
