Looking at a boat a couple hours away and they were nice enough to send some videos showing them tapping on the stringers. It's hard for me to tell if these sound solid or not. Anyone else have any thoughts on what they hear? Thanks in advance.

You hear nothing. Drill test is the only way to tell,. I did the tap test it passed with flying colors. Marina did the tap test same reponse. I opened it up wasted KILL ZONE. So I recomend drilling and that is the only way to be sure. If it is dry shavings just 4200 in the hole go boating as one gentleman here says all the time.

the only way to test is with a moisture meter or a drill test.

wet and rotting wood inside a transom sounds the same as good new and dry wood.....until the wet and rotting wood has long since rotted away to nothing and left a hollow spot. which is about 15 years after the rot starts.

what kind of boat are you looking at? what year?

if over 15 years old, assume its a project boat.

Thanks for the feedback gentlemen. It's a 84 Century Arabian. If/when I can make the trip to see the boat I'll see how invasive they'll let me be at checking.
