Tapping in Distributor Cap via Ignitor II ??

Put a new Pertronix Ignitor II (replaced my Ignitor 1)in my distributor, fired it up and now it sounds like heavy tapping around the distributor like the rotor is hitting all eight cap points. Put the old cap in and it also sounds like heavy spark or hitting. Is this high spark noise, rotor hitting the cap points or the Ignitor II sparking the 42000 volt new coil to all hell? I tried torquing and untorquing the cap but the sound is still there? tap tap tap. Runs good but just dont sound right? Any ideas, both caps look the same. Am I going to run into trouble? IS this a ground issue?? Looking for some advise....

Ok I will answer my own question! The rotor was hitting the cap points. I looked at the old rotor and the new rotor and the new one from Ignitor II was just a hair longer. I grinded the new one down a bit and it now is not tapping as loud or at all! Nothing like comparing parts!!!

Live and learn......

Interesting. I just put a pertronixs conversion kit in mine and it didn't come with a rotor. Is that just for specific models. I got the pertronixs Ingnitor II and Flame thrower II expoxy cooil. Glad I did the coil. the one on my boat was a none resitor one and I found I had 12 volts on my positive terminal . there was suppose to be a external resistor and there wasn't. Made the instalation easier though. :)

Yes it came with a roter and the outer lower sleeve. If your fits in the sleeve I see no problem. This came from the company in the box and was orderd to fit my OMC V8 350. Good luck.

Yup I had the same problem. I used a new regular cap and fixed it up.

I didn't have any extra rotor with mine either.

Just a little side note: I'm sure you noticed the little slip that said not to use solid copper core wiring with your new set up? I wonder why they say that? Maybe it's too much current for solid copper core wiring?

Yea, thats what I got out of it too. Solid core will give it too much juice. I just added a 12 gauge stranded from the starter to the coil +. Seems a little large but they want it to be none resitorized.
