my 1975, 165hp, merc.,inline 6 cylinder runs good, however it has a slight tapping sound comming from the engine. It is more of a tap then a knock. I've been told not to worry. Should I? Should I have the lifters, or valves adjusted?
It 's not uncommon to have a little lifter noise in the inline engines, do you need a oil change, if not and the noise is bothersome to you have the valves adjusted
Can't hurt, but might not do anything. Pick yourself up a bottle of seafoam and dose it per instructions through the carb while underway. I had the same tapping noise in my 225 V8 and it dissapeared after hitting it with some seafoam. Worth a shot.
