The factory muffler "out flow" is to small, and the screen plugs up very easly. If a person makes the "out flow" 1.25% bigger then the intake{on muffler} it helps alot. You would need to put another screen in{don't want dirt going in through exhaust}. By opening up the factory exhaust it allows a much better air flow increasing hp and helps to keep the engine temp much cooler. The factory exhaust is set for emissions not performance, the sad part is that it also forces the saw to die earlier then it should because of un-needed heat. There are a few after market mufflers but I believe they are for the higher quility machines stihl pro husky etc... This isn't a big deal though, a person with some mecahnical knowhow should have no problem performing the mod on their cheaper quility saw.

1. I don't find where I said anything about dirt bikes. I wrote about water cooled and air cooled 2 stroke engines. All of my opinions remain unchanged.

2. The Poulan saw I blew up had maybe 10 hours on it. The Poulan I bought to replace it has around 100 hours (7 years) using chainsaw oil. Oh, and it is air cooled. :) For serious work I use a Husky, and it has never seen TC-W3. It is also air cooled, but too heavy to use one handed on the top of a ladder.

Okay, maybe it was a lemon??? friday or monday machine. Couldn't you take it back? I just find it hard to believe it blew up because of the tc-w3. In my opinion I'ld want to tear it down and find out what happened. This opinion comes from the fact that I have been using the tc-w3 for years in my saws and like I said not one problem. Thanks for answerng my questions and like I said this is just my opinion. Just curious.

I was wondering, you used seperate oil for 2 different saws? You said you used air cooled{2cycle oil} for the husky, but used tc-w3 for the poulan, how come? Is it possible the mix on the tc-w3 was wrong?

I agree The cheapo saws are lighter then a big pro saw. Plus if they do get smashed you don't have to cry over the price of a replacement. Alot of the loggers around here brag about their pro saws{stihl husky jon echo etc} they never say anything about the cheapo's. The funny thing is that you allways see them running the cheapo  :)

You can check the arborist forest or logging sites, they have alot of info in their chainsaw forums. It may take a few minutes, because they like to talk about the pro saws, but they do have info on the cheapo's.

I bought the Husky after the CS incident, 20/20. Both the current Poulan and the Husky use 40:1 from the same can.
