The previous owner of my 82 Sea Ray used some type of coating on the teack to give it the appearance of freshloyy oiled teak. Looking closs, is is more of a paint-having color and flaking. Sanding with 100 grit does not remove this- any suggestions- would rather oil teak 2-3 imes a season than have this junk

Re: Teak

If you have a power washer with a turbo nozzel try that, or try scraping it off with a screwdriver, no guarantees though.

Re: Teak

It's a tough process restoring the teak finish on your boat. (especially if you have a lot) I used an oil a few years ago that left the wood in great condition season after season. I sanded the finish to new wood, (it will have a blonde color to it at that point) then used Watco oil instead of teak oil to condition the wood. This oil can be purchased at Menards or Home Depot type stores. I use this oil at the beginning of each season and it leaves the wood looking great throughout the year. I do have to apply extra coats to my swim ladder and floor grate as these areas get a great deal of traffic. If you try this product you'll find your teak is really not such a headache.

Re: Teak

I was going to suggest Linseed Oil, like we used in the Army on tools with wooden handles, but then I looked into it and found that Linseed Oil and Teak Oil are becoming a thing of the past. Here is an article I found to be rather informative on this subject.
Also I don't claim to know much about boats and boating. However, before you take a presure washer to your teak you may want to consult this Teak Cleaning and Refinishing article from www.marinestore.com
