The 1yr old GE cloths washer started making a grinding sound like the gear box was about to go. So I open the front pannel (neat machine, everything is serviceable through front pannel) and discover the noise is really a squeek. Its coming from one of the 4 bushings that the tub hands from. When I swing the tub, one bushing squeeks badly. The bushing looks like one half is white nylon. Slippery stuff and I decide to use spray silicone lube to make it quiet. While I'm at it, I spray some silicone on the other three bushings just to avoid any further problems.

Close it up, turn it on and Bingo! ALL 4 BUSHINGS START SQUEEKING! YIKES! I end up putting plain old 10-30 motor oil on them and they are quiet. But that really had me going for a while.

Why would silicone make a nylon bushing squeek?
