The other evening my wife dug out a old DVD of Gone With The Wind. I was thinking to myself, "this is going to look like a snow storm on this new big screen TV."
To my surprise, the movie was recorded in technicolor, and looked like it was a imax type of quality. The colors jumped out, and accurate in every detail. I wonder why most modern DVD's cant even come close to the quality? I will be looking to get more of those old technicolor movies for the collection. Anyone else noticed this?....I still can't believe a 1939 movie can look this good.

Re: Technicolor

Technicolor was then, what 3d is now - beautiful, state-of-the-art, expensive and proprietary. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technicolor

Gorgeous movie, It's very likely that the movie was remastered using modern techniques, when it was processed to DVD. Guess it's something else on Blue-Ray discs.

I've tried to watch it in it's entirety, but I can't make it through the 3 1/2 hour running time. ;)

I'm getting to be 'older' now and I still have never seen Gone With the Wind. A couple of weeks ago a neighbor gave me a VHS set of tapes. It's still sitting here on the chair waiting for me to finally watch it. Considering my age, it almost seems un-American that I have not watched it.

This was made back when Americans could do anything. There was no one around telling us that we were no better than nor more capable of than any other of the worlds population.

It would still be that way today if......

It is amazing how much we have lost with the advent of the digital revolution, I have been a photographer for most of my adult life and digital can't even compare to the old kodachrome slides I was taking in my youth..technicolor was an amazing accomplishment that still shines in this day and age of digital everything..I have an extensive collection of Technicolor films and enjoy them every single time I watch them...It was a vivid medium that actually draws you into the movie..even with the current 3-D technology I just don't get the same experience...
