Teleflex gauges for a 470/MCM-165

Hello Everyone,
I haven't visited here for a long time since my boat--and particularly my 470--has been performing great for a long time. I essentially rebuilt everything from the control stick to the skeg and that hard work is paying off.

Its time to replace the old, inaccurate gauges in my boat. I see many Teleflex packages being offered for sale, but how do I know if I'm getting the correct gauge? Wouldn't gauges like oil pressure and water temperature be engine-specific? Or can I just get one that's for I/O engines?

Thanks

The gauges would be matched to their sender, they don't care what engine they are in.

If you get oil psi, and water temp, I think I would get new senders from Teleflex with them, so they should work together.

I don't know if they are the same as factory or not. Probably. But new senders wouldn't be a terrible thing with new gauges.

If you have good gauges in there now, and just want newer ones, you could record your readings now and after you put the new gauges in, see if the numbers are the same. If different, then change the senders too.

I've been eyeing the Faria gauges. I think they make a Tach with an hour meter on the bottom of it, kinda nice to know.

BWT.... glad to hear that 470's running sweet!!

I found a Teleflex pdf that has all the gauge ranges and sender codes. What is the significance of the sender code? Is it something that is universal among parts manufacturers, and is it stamped on the sender unit itself?

I guess if I had the Mercruiser sender codes, I could match them up to the appropriate gauge and order a customized package?
