Re: teleflex rotory steering question
I had the same problem. The cable had to do an "s" to get to the thru tube on the engine. The rise in the transom wouldn't allow the cable to bend.
I removed the mount bolts from the engine and slide it as far as necessary to the port side to remove the old cable and get the new cable started. Once started, started feeding the cable and pushing the back in place. The force was enough bend the cable when the engine aligned with the bolt holes.
With the motor pushed to the side is a good time to inspect the gel under the mount and polish and wax the area. Check the wood in the transom at the bolt holes to check for rot.
Cautions:
1) place a sheet of something like plastic or wood to prevent the engine mount from scratching the gel.
2) tilt the trailer tongue all the way down or within reason to better keep the weight of the engine over the transom.
3) use something to use as a secondary restraint for the engine, i.e. stout tree limb, A-frame.
4) loosen/disconnect the other control cables and wiring to prevent them from being damaged.
An option is use a cable that has supports mount to the transom. Still have to move the engine to get the old cable off the engine or saw it in sections as it is being withdrawn.
