Teleflex steering replacement

I have a Teleflex Saftyt QC 15' Sterering system that was very stiff. Following the advice on this board, I detached it from the motor, and the motor moves freely. I am now looking to replace the steering cable. The way my motor is mounted, I am unable to pull the cable through the existing hole in the motor well. The nut that attaches the cable is too large. Is there a way to detach the cable from the rod? Or do I have to moce the motor in ordewr to line up the cable and the hole? I am loathe to attempt to move the motor.

I have also seen posts refering to Rotory and hydrolic systems. What is the difference, and should thart be something I am looking to use instead?

BTW it is a 18' bayliner with a M90A Tohatsu 2 stroke.

Re: Teleflex steering replacement

Thanks for your response, even though it it not what I was hoping for. :)
Right now, with the steering disconnected, the motor flops (for lack of a better term) around pretty easily. Is there a way to lock it, so when I was lifting or moving it I wouldn't have to worry about it swinging one way or another?

Re: Teleflex steering replacement

With that small of a boat you probably do not need any sort of a hydraulic system for the steering. That is normally for larger boats with more power and weight. Just my 2cents

Also TD is exactly right release the motor and move it over. It is a job but it must be done. I just went through this. There shold be a lifting eye on top of the motor. Raise it up move it over and you are home free. Easy once you get past this part. Just make sure that you remember which holes the motor goes in when you reattatch it.
Good luck;)

Re: Teleflex steering replacement

Just got back from boat store where I got the Teleflex system. I am resigned to moving the motor...It will be an engineering feat! YAY boat repair! I appriciate all the responses, I am sure it only seems more daunting than it will be. If only I had a tree in my front yard! :D
