Teleflex Tachometer/Rectifier question

1994 Johnson 90HP V4. I have checked the excellent posts by Joe Reeves on testing the tach and rectifier but am still puzzled. here are the symptoms:

Tach works infrequently. There is 12V to the ign post but no voltage on the grey wire sender post. Also none at the engine but the yellow and yellow grey have voltage. The problem I am having is that I know the rectifier is charging properly because I get 15V to high RPM at the battery even though nothing to the grey wire.

So is the rectifier "partially working" or do I have a bad grey wire from the rectifier to the terminal.

Any advice greatly appreciated

Just as a process of elimination, i would disconnect the gray wire at both ends and use an ohm meter to make sure the wire is not broken.

Checked continuity however from the terminal strip to the rectifier it is molded into the latter so no way of checking if it is broken inside the rectifier

Are you checking for AC voltage on the gray wire?
