I just bought an Amega series Tach for my 1984 35hp Evinrude Mod# E35ELCRR. The instructions want me to set the calibration to 1/2 the number of poles on the alternator. I can't get a straight answer to my question from anyone. How do I know how many poles it has?????? I want to re-prop my boat so I need it to be accurate.

Re: Teleflex Tachometer

There are two ways to do this. 1) remove the flywheel and count them. 2) Set the tach to 6P (12 poles) and see what the engine idles at. If it idles at it's recommended idle rpm you got it. In the end, the proper setting will be 5P or 6P. Although I'm not positive, I believe that engine has a 12 pole alternator.
