Telflex water pressure gauge "TUBING"

I bought a water pressuge gauge and tried installing it today and ended up about 3-5 ft short on the amount of tubing that was in the package. Does anybody here know what kind of tubing it is or where I can buy some?
I have some clear polyethelyne, but the box says not to use for pressure or high temperature. I think we would would be looking at 25 PSI max and 143 degrees for water temperature where it goes to the poppit valve. Any help would be appreciated.

Gary,

I had the same problem. I was about 18" short. I used 1/8" air brake line for mine. Worked fine. I am now in my 2nd year and no problems.

qapd

Gss, I would think most neopreme tubing would be OK. The pressure is not high, and ususally water doesn't get to the gauge, only air pressure. Marine Speedo tubing would also work.

Re: Telflex water pressure gauge "TUBING"

I went over to the Olymic Boater center and they sold me a piece of "Spedo" tubing for 36 cents a ft and a splice fitting. Now I don't have any excuses for not doing the install today as the sun is shinning and it is 50 degrees.
Has anyone had any problem with lines freezing? I was thinking about sucking some RV antifreeze into the line before installation. Chris says very little if any water gets into the tubing, but we do get some very cold weather here.
I had sent an e-mail to Telflex and surprisingly, I had an answer on my e-mail this AM, but they just said 1/8" ID tubing, so I fired an e-mail back asked about the spedo tubing since it is a little more flexible. I checked the Teleflex site and the 100 ft rolls of Spedo tubing is the same as they are selling for both applications, so I am presuming I have what I need.
Thanks for the replies.

Water should never intrude into that tube more than an inch or so, from the engine. The only way water can creep into the tube is if you have a leak.

Re: Telflex water pressure gauge "TUBING"

Thankss DJ.
I got it hooked up, but running on muff and hose, I am only getting about 8 # pressure at 1500-1600 RPM. Is that natural or should it be higher? The water pump impeller was changed last year along with the thermostats and I am getting a good pee stream.
I also put in a new temperature gauge and sender and it is reading good so I can watch the temperature. I had put in a new Merc sender but the gauge was the fault. I now have 2 good Merc temp senders senders.
Hope to get out tomorrow so will know more then.

I think I will start a new thread on the Merc repair forum. Ran the motor today for 1.5 hrs. Low pressure at idle thru 2000 rpm.

My water pressure is 4-5 at idle, 8-10 at mid throttle, 13-15 at full throttle when the impeller is new. It drops a couple psi when the impeller is old. Remember, this is not a closed system, so pressure doesn't build up very much.

Ok, I guess I was thinking that the poppit stopped the water and pressure would build up and then drop down when motor hits around 3000 rpm and the poppit opens.
