I know there has been alot of discussion on the tell tale pee hole and with a search I never got a definitive answer. Started my motor up for the first time this year, ran for as much as 10 minutes with no stream from the pee hole. I know the pump is good as water comes from the exhaust. I've seen posts about temperature so how do you measure Temp? Too hot to touch is over? It was peeing fine last year.

I measure with a laser thermometer, 3 second touch rule without one on the head. Thinking the telltale is blocked up, dirt dobbers love to build nests in them, probably just blocked up.

I can touch it for three seconds and that is about it. No mud dobbers, the hole is about the size of pencil lead. But how many minutes of running do you think we should see a stream?

It's relatively instant, water should come out of the tale before anything, it's before the t-stat. I start both my 9.9's and the 15 and it occurs right away, You need to clean remove the tube from the block and blow in it to see if it's blocked, if not then it's the fitting come off the powerhead that is blocked.

remove the hose at the block, see if you get water without the hose. if not, there are several possibilities, impeller, clogged water tube, clogged exhaust cooling jacket.

remove the lower unit, put hose to water tube, and blow out system. while there change the impeller.

Thanks for the replies. It appears there is much dis-assembly involved to "Get to" the pee hole exit on the block. and I've had the leg off several times. I was hoping I was ready to go this year. I dealt with carb issues last year and it runs good now. This is a project motor and has seen a hard life. I have 2 other out boards '73 9.5hp (not enough) and '73 25hp (too much), so I'll keep poking at it!
