Does the 1970 20R-70C Have a tell tale hole, it appears to about 2/3 of the way up the lower unit on the side. It appears to be plugged, when you put a small nail into the hole it comes out with a black goo on it. I don't want to take it out until I can figure out where both the exhaust and the water discharge, I want to verify that water is pumping.

Thanks

Re: Tell Tale Hole Question (Pee Hole)

Per my above question, the motor starts great, but when I run it in a tub of water I dont see any water discharge, is it possible this motor discharges from near the prop under the water's surface. Sorry if my question seems non-educated, but I am new to this game and I don't want to take er' out and have it overheat on my first trip out. Thanks

Re: Tell Tale Hole Question (Pee Hole)

1970 motors do not have a tell tale. There should be an outlet on the upper rear of the midsection. On most motors you will see a mist comming from that hole at idle and more of a flow as you raise the rpms. The black goo is unburned oil in the exhaust cavity and not a cause for concern.
