Took my boat in and had a new water pump installed its a 150 force. asked them to put a telltale on it . They told me because of the size of the engine they were afraid to do it. said it would take to much water from the cooling and they wanted to install a water temp gauge. does this make sense to anyone?

None.The pump will push WAY more water than needed.
They might have thought they would make more $
It's easy to install.Look for the threads/stickys.J

I have both and it runs just fine!

Put a 1/2" brass T in the SS screw hole - one side reduced to a 1/4" waterline for the telltale and a temp sender in the other side. $20 in pieces from Lowes and $7 for the temp gauge + sender from eBay.

Any one will do as long as it comes with it's sender.

I chose this one - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290505530474 - cos it was cheap and had a small 1/8" npt sensor with multiple adapters. Downside is that it's kinda hard to see in direct sunlight but you can see it.
