I have a 1982, 90HP, 6 cylinder outboard that has no temp guage or alarm. Is there a good source for an after market guage or alarm that I can install? I have an after-market manual for Mercury engines covering 45-225HP, 1972-1989, but nowhere in the manual does it discuss where a temp sensor should be connected to the engine.

That looks like the water pressure outlet for the water pressure gauge.

The capped thin tube is likely the feed to a water pressure gauge.

Thanks for the quick responses...this is absolutely the most incredible forum, boat or otherwise, that I have ever come across. This temp gauge is exactly what I need. I'm also looking into the "water pressure" port in the area suggested. I may try to install a gauge here also just as a precaution. After reading other posts concerning overheating nightmares a little extra money is worth spending.

Site says 28lbs..
Pretty heavy for a gauge.
Do you think it's a typo ?
