Looking for a quick test to do on temp gauge to see if it's working. I recall last year the temp gauge read it was in the 180-190 range after running on lake. This year as i was giving the boat a test run and checking all gauges it was reading 120ish. Dont recall looking at the gauge before running engine to see if it had moved at all. Just noticed when running that it was in the 120 range and stayed there while running. Picking up a thermostat today incase thats the problem. But thought i could also do a quick check on gauge before changing thermostat. Could sending unit give false reading also? Is there a way to check it? 96 four winns with VP 4.3L. Engine model # 432APHUB Serial # T1286369. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Those are OMC model and serial numbers, so I moved your post over to the OMC forum.

Get yourself an IR Temp gun and check the temp of the engine right next to the temp sender to check gauge accuracy. It very well could be a gauge or sender problem. Even wiring. The higher the resistance (corroded wire or connection) the lower the temp gauge will show.
