My motor is a 1995 4.3lx Mercruiser I/0 with an Alpha One out drive.

This past weekend (Friday) I lost my temperature gauge while running on the water. I thought it wasn't a big deal since I have never had an issue with my engine and I was running it all day with no problems. I figured that once I put it on the trailer on Sunday I would fix the gauge or have it looked at.

It ran great all day Saturday without an issue. When I went to trailer the boat Sunday morning it wouldn't get up on plane and would cut/lose power at the point when it should be planing out and my oil pressure would go higher than normal.

When I got home I took a look at it. It appeared that both wires to my temp sending unit had came lose, even the one that had a nut rather than a plug. When I connected them back up my temp gauge pegged hot even when off. When I would start the boat the gauge would continue to stayed pegged hot and I would get a solid tone alarm. Although when I would remove the side that had a plug the gauge would bottom out and the tone would go away.

My engine cranks and runs great besides the fact that the oil pressure goes up above normal at a certain RPM (not sure what RPM because my gauge sticks).

I feel that my problem is either a wiring issue to the sending unit, bad temp gauge, or a bad sending unit. However I find it weird that it would be affecting my oil pressure. It idles at 45 psi and usually goes up to 60 psi when under load or going down the lake but will now go up to 80 psi. All my fluid levels check out. Could anything with my temp sensor cause my oil pressure to increase?

As usual, everything in a boat and with gauges has to have a good ground to operate properly. And I would start by removing and cleaning all the ground connection to bright shiny metal from the battery and engine before doing anything else. JMHO

Yep, what he said! haha

All of the sensors that you have on your motor that are "1 wire" are basically a resistor in series with each gauge. If you have a bad motor ground to the battery, or connection on the gauges, sensors, etc, its going to make stuff act weird.

If your concerned about oil pressure, pull the sending unit and hook up an actual oil pressure gauge and check it.
