My temp guage is not working. There are two temperature sensors on the engine. One on the water pump housing and one on the exhaust housing. Which one sends information to the temp guage?

Boat now has 25 hours.

Thanks in Advance for any information.

Most all temp gauge senders only have 1 wire connected to a threaded stud.

Most temp senders are located on the thermostat housing. If you have none there I would say the circulation pump housing one (water pump on a boat is little rubber impeller and housing either in the drive or belt/crank driven on engine) what you would call a water pump on a car is the circulation pump.

My guess AN THIS IS ONLY A GUESS since what you describe has never been seen by me. The sensor on the exhaust elbow would be to make sure water is flowing in the exhaust or it is a mixture sensor for an EFI.

I guess it time to ask the Master, Don?

I'm guessing it's the one in the head, right below the intake.

The one with the blue wire is the gauge sender.

I would have guessed it would be light brown, but I guess I guessed wrong!

I know this sounds like a broken record but "Once again thanks to Don S"., I'll get a new one and post again when I get the temp sensor installed.

the reason your temp gauge is not working could be a stuck open thermostat. its common to get some pebbles and or rust build up inthe thermostat and keep it open. i would check the temp on the engine with a thermometer or hand and see if its warm.

once you locate your sender pull the wire off and touch it to ground with key on and see if the temp gauge pegs to full if itdoes the temp gauge is good.

Thanks Boat127, can I just take another wire and make connection between the thermostat wire and the negative on the battery? That is after I pull it off the thermocouple?

Ok, I know it's been a while since this thread was started, but here's the final update.
Took the thermostat housing off the block and WOW..thermostat was busted into three peices with the main part still seated firmly in place. Not too sure why it was broken into so many peices, but I think I retreived them all. Anyway, I installed the new thermostat and bingo, we now have temp readings.
Thanks to all..
