Temp sending unit

Hey Guys, new to the board. Need a water sending unit for my 89 40 hp mariner. All I can seem to find is sending unit for gauges. Mine has the audible alarm only, are the sending units interchangeable? This is my first outboard, so its a lil greek to me.

Hey Rosskamp, it sounds like you are referring to the temp overheat switch and not a temp sending unit. They are available from any merc dealer. Give them the s/n of the motor and they can fix you up. There are several different versions and temp ranges available so be careful to get the right one. They are not cheap. I bought mine off e-bay for $19.00. The dealers wanted $118.
