Re: Temp sending unit

Which 4.3 are we talking about here? There's several dozen versions of the 4.3 over the various years.

There have been about 2 dozen versions of the 4.3 from 1993-current. The letters after the "GL" are the helpful ones. Having said that, and assuming a raw water cooled engine, generally the water temp sensor is in the thermostat housing. Brass insert with beige wire coming from it.

two wires coming out, one on each side of the metal thingy with 4 hoses coming out of it.

just out of pure curiosity, why do you want to know where this is?

To possibly change the temp sending unit. Temp guage does not move at all

Could be the gauge also. You can check it by grounding the sensor wire on the back of the gauge and watching to see if it pegs out.

More times then not this due to a stuck open thermostat before a bad gauge or sending unit.

Using an infrared temperature gun, check your engine temperature to see if it's getting around 150 degrees at the thermostat housing.

Also try tapping on the gauge to see if moves.

Can you see very slight movement at key up?
