I changed my thermostat and impeller because the temp guage showed fairly hot. Well it shows the same as before I changed these items. I don't have temperature numbers on my gauge, just four lines and my temp shows one the line before the last quarter. I can touch my engine and it feels normal, not hot to the touch at all.

Could it be the temp sender or the guage? or what?

Well it could be either.

The quickest easiest method is using a Infered heat gun. take the gun and point it at the sensor and you have a good idea of engine temp.

If you feel it is easier to change parts the temp sender is cheaper.

If it is truly not overheating, then the sensor is most likely to blame, but you can rule out the gauge easy enough. Just disconnect it from the sensor, and with the ignition turned on, ground the wire. The gauge should go all the way hot.
Good luck
justin@sterndrive.cc
www.sterndrive.cc

Thanks for the replies guys! I'll try grounding the temp guage and see what happens...then in all likliehood, get a new sensor.
