Last year our 07 3.0 Merc with 115 hrs ran a tad warmer than I remember it running (175 on the hose, slightly higher in the water) used to be 150 on the gauge while on the hose and around the 165-170 at W.O.T.

Now that its time to put it in the water I just put a new Quick silver t stat in and its still at the 175 on the hose. When I IR temp the block it shows in the upper 150s low 160s on the hose (where the gauge used to read)

Sound like a bad gauge or sender?

I just ordered a new exhaust elbow for it. The on that is on is original (brackish water use) it does not look too bad inside but the gasket surface is chewed up and it will not seal now. Exhaust Manifold is also original.

All the gauges are OEM installed Faria and over the last 2 season some have started to go "wonky"

Volt meter has entirely failed
Tach sticks once in a while
and trim erratically reads (but I did order a new trim roter if I ever get it Merc has it on back order until end of July)

I'm thinking of ordering an entire new set if that many are starting to fail rather then do it piece meal.

Use an IR temp gun at the thermostat housing to verify temp

How much brackish? Salt is salt! 13 years of usage? I suspect clogged manifold or riser. Buy an inferred thermometer to use to find hot spot to help diagnose blockage, if any. Gauges/connectors may have built up corrosion and resistance. Keep in mind that motor has had salt water passed through it too. We learned in Florida decades ago that iron and aluminum do not like any types of salt water. And, if we kept ODs wet, we were asking for trouble. Flushing with fresh water just prolongs the inevitable: replace metals. Good luck!

What was the thermostat temperature rating you installed, should been 140F? I had a 1987 3.0 liter I sold last year (33 year's later) Original engine, alternator, coil , plug wires, carburetor (rebuilt a couple times) original trim pump. 100% salt water. first oil change was in 1992 because the oil filer rusted through and put oil in the bilge (LMAO). Beat relentlessly. Well over 2000 hours. Replaced manifolds (rusted through engine would start )in 2000 Again in 2010 (busted open with hammer still looked good) so the bs of salt destroying engines is bs. i did flush engine every time after use. Replaced bellows complete waste of time and money as original were perfect. It was a starcraft.

160F is what mine calls for.

I let it run on the hose again today for 20 min at 12-1500 RPM. IR temped the the T stat housing, block and manifold. 160 at the housing, 130s manifold, and block was 150's. Sender ohm'd out at 117 when at temp so I think my gauge is maybe off. #3 of the 7 are starting to go. Is this common for Faria?
