Tempest 18'

I would appreciate some opinions; Would a late 80's or early 90's 70 HP Jonson VRO engine (serial # missing) drive a 18 foot Tempest bowrider? Thanks for any advice. Soddy

That's not much hp for an 18' boat. You'd be on the low end of the hp scale. If you wanted it as a fishing boat, it would probably be ok. If you wanted take the family out and pull skiers, you'd really be disappointed. A 115 hp would be better.

What's the data plate for that boat say about the max HP?

Both of my boats are around 18' and I'm sure they'd be extremely underpowered with a 70..... I have a 175 on one and a 140 on the other (both are rated around 180 HP maximum), I can feel the difference in acceleration (the 175 is significantly better), but kinda' like the 140 because it's much more fuel efficient.
