I thought I might get in on the small car rage and appease my lovey bride by looking at trading one of my trucks for a smaller car. We test drove a Scion Tc.

I currently own three fords but have had it up to here with the quality issues that have plagued me with these vehicles.

Well out of the blue we ended up at a lot with one of these little numbers with 8K, used. Took her for a ride, and it gets up and moves. Nice performer. I am 6'3" and with the seat all the way back I can be more than comfortable for even longer trips, assuming I get the front seat. The hatch is huge. It's like a hard cover on a pickup. The trunk in cavernous and really easy to get things in and out of. Back seat is for people you really don't like. Pretty tight back there. But we are looking for a little commuter car, with good mileage and something that we could use for weekend trips not for hauling our friends around in. Got an SUV for that.

The moonroof is enormous and has little impact with regards to noise when it is open. Fit and finish is top notch. Door lines are perfect, and the dash comes together without binding and without any sign of a wave. The interior fabric is different, I don't know yet if I would like it. But if it is like the fabric in my new ford, it holds up well but is succeptable to staining. Controls are nicely placed and accented with chrome down the center. The radio takes up an inordinate amount of the dash but it doesn't cause any other control to be ackwardly placed. The list of standard features has everything you would expect and darn if it isn't kind of sporty lookin.

I was told the mileage was like 32 highway. I couldn't find any flaw with this little car. All this at around 17K. I might wait a while to see if they drop in price on the used market as they have only been out for about a year. If you are looking for a sporty little car, for a competitive price with a pedigree from Toyota, I don't think you can lose with this little sporty car.

Re: Test drive

Sorry your having problems with the Fords. I have a 2000 F150 with 98k miles on it and it has always run great.
But, with the price of gas theses days @ $3.19, I can see you getting a car for most of the driving. I get 14 MPG city and 24 Hwy with the truck.

Re: Test drive

I have never got more than 18 on my Expedition. But ooohhh, what room. Engine performance has been outstanding, other things, not so good.

10.5mpg hauling the boat. Just took her on about a 500 mile haul with the boat. Tows nicely, but a diesel probably would have saved me a little heartache at the pump.:%

This is what im looking at, my 1999 ford lariat has about 65000 thousand miles on it I will keep it. The wife’s 2002 Chevy Blazer has about 95000 thousand on it. You can see what we do most of our running around in, the Blazer gets about twenty on the highway the lariat, gets about seventeen if I keep my foot out of it That focus is rated at thirty seven. Took one for a test drive wow will be hard to get used to it after the lariat. but that life in the twenty first century I guess.

Looked at the Scions also before getting a little commuter car for the wife.We ended up with a Honda Civic.I was however fairly impressed with the Scion we looked at but wasn't willing to shell out the extra bucks.I believe the one you mentioned is a candidate for a dealer installed turbo option if you decide you want some extra ponies.

Granted that my Ford F250 was 12 years old, got about 8 mpg, and I drove about 100 miles a day it was time to get a new car 4 years ago. I bought a Hyndai Elantra. Figuring the gas price of about $1.19 a gallon back then, insurance, reg fees, and maint costs the car only cost me $37 a month to drive. That was when gas was affordable. I was able to save that much on my gas bill. I love having a third vehicle. My truck stays loaded with tools for the farm and I don't have to clean it out to go to work. I no longer worry about one of the vehicles breaking down because I always have a paid for rental.
