Can anyone tell me how deep the water should be in my test tank for a 1966 Johnson FD-20 C? Also, I'm ignorant about the technical terms like a cavater plate? What is that? Do I basically make sure the prop is in the water only or do I need to make sure the water comes up the shaft a certain amount to ensure water flow? thanks.

Re: test tank depth

A couple inches above the oval bump in the housing where the impeller is will be sufficient to immerse the impeller in water. They are not self-priming pumps.

The anti-cavitation plate is the flat horizontal plate above the propeller.

It is more correct to call it an anti-ventilation plate because its purpose is to prevent air being drawn down into the propeller.

Depth should be half way up the leg to allow for turbulence, one the motor starts.
