I recently bought a maxum boat and fixed her up...now im at the mechanical part...the motor starts up without any problem...we have the motor submerged enough in water to where it can suck it up to cool the motor....however, we arent sure if its sucking it in. The two straw size holes on the back where- if im correct- the water exits back out, is not flowing out. Is it clogged? Just looking for some pointers seeing how im a newbe. The motor has sat for almost 2 years without being ran...id appreciate any help.

You typically won't see water exit there until the thermostat opens.

There should be another small stream that exits out of the lower cowl pan.

If you are not sure when the water pump was serviced, you're overdue.

thanks much, i appreciate it much. This is the first boat ive actually had to mess with the motor. I'll make sure I get the pump looked at before i run her. again thanks!
