I just picked up a a 1985 long shaft evinrude cheaply on a trade. It sat for 2 years in storage with gas in it. I am getting spark as I changed the plugs and wires. I am getting fuel thru the line as far as the carb. When I try to start it, which it won't, the plugs are dry. So I'm assuming the carb is gummed up. Is there any way to make sure the engine is gonna run , before I take the time to read up and clean the carb? I know you can't use starting fluid on 2 strokes. Thanks.

Squirt some premix fuel into the carb throat and see if it will start.

Four things to make an engine run. Compression.....Spark.....Fuel......Exhaust.
