Testing a fish finder

I have an old eagle fish finder that works about 25% of the time. I kind of like it cuz it indicates the type of bottom I am running over and the graphic display helps "chart" the last 30 seconds readings. I could really care less about the fish finder functionality of it.<br /><br />As I said it only works occasionally and I would like to troubleshoot it to see what the problem is b4 I replace it with a new unit. How can I tell if it is the head or the transducer and how do you trouble shoot each Item.<br /><br />Tall order but thanks in advance.

What does it do or not do when it is not "working", Pointer?

Most of the time it just won't read the depth, but on others it is like the function keys are locked up. I don't know it the signal being corrupted is causing the head to lock up or if it is the head itself.

What voltage is your charging system putting out? Undervotage and overvoltage can do weird things to fishfinders.

POINTER94 - I bet if you go to their website and search the FAQ or send them an email describing the problem they will be able to help you figure out what is going on. Vendors typically see the same problems over and over and can diagnose them quickly.
