Testing a Idle Control Valve?

How do I test it? I have an 02 Merc 115 EFI 4-Stroke. I know its a little stepper motor that moves a pin up and down, But I cant find how to test it? Anyone know how or what voltage it needs to work?

Does anyone know If I can start the motor with the
control valve out to see if it moves in and out?
