I got this '87ish mercruiser lower end, came off a upper that had meshed up gears and locked up. Took the lower end off it, it seems to go into gear and turn the prop spline when I rotate the upper shaft. I was turning the shift gear key, it seemed to go through the gears. Whats a good way to test this drive for a sale? Friend sold the boat it was off, 1987 searay 4.3 V6 Alpha one gen one.

Thanks!

Whats a good way to test this drive for a sale on ebay?

Ayuh,...

Advertise it as a "Rebuildable Core",.... cause that's All it is...

All the Grounded up Metal from the trashed upper gears is now down in those lower gears,+ bearings....

If the upper lost it's gears, the lower gears are probably gone too. With the corrosion on the housing,What you have there is scrap aluminum.
You can buy brand new SEI lowers for less than you can buy gears and bearings and the special tools to rebuild that one.

That's not corrosion, its dirt from sitting in the yard! Turned the shifter again, and it has F/N/R, and the oil looks good. I think this thing would run, don't really see why it would not with a good flush???

It will, for a few minutes anyway.

I seen the picture before you removed it, it was corrosion. I've seen to many of them. I do know the difference.

Get what you can, but you are unloading junk.
