Re: Testing oil alarms?
The initial beep is supposed to tell you that the system is ok.
I had a Merc with a separate tank for oil and to activate that alarm you had to turn the tank upside down.
I am a mechanism guy; want to understand how things work, then I know what to look for when trying to fixem. So I try to learn how things work.
But, I am not familiar with the workings of oil alarms so I don't know what it takes to activate; but you would think if you took it out of the tank, it would be analagous to an empty tank and you'd think it's set off the beeper.

Just a minute, I'll see if my Merc service manual has some info.
It says (Merc) to test the sensor you disconnect both leads going to the sensor and if the tank is empty you should have continuity between the wires.
Mine is an engine mounted tank and not OMC so yours may be different.
So, other than having something funny in the tank like a stuck float or something, you should be able to measure your sensor in the same position as it is when installed...like what's up needs to be up.
Since it mentions float position, there may be a button on the sensor that you have to depress to simulate the condition when the float is at the bottom of the (empty) tank.
Then to test the rest of the circuit, turn your ign on and take a piece of wire and short across the wires in the harness that go to the sensor; the horn should come on.
Best I can do.
