if I press my interuptor switch and engine doesn't bog down is it possible for it to be engaged all the time - I had to turn up the throttle to keep it from stalling and i can't get the boat to plane off- sounds like misfiring? cap rotor points all new and no change - wires look ok and see no arcing

Re: testing shift interuptor 87 omc cobra 5.0L

I had no Idea that this swich even existed ... I have a 1980 , 140 , OMC stern drive that my friend sold me this year and when we brought it to the lake it turned into the titanic... It would idle ,put it into neutral and it would rev up ..... If you tried to put it in forward or reverse it would just die ...We spent a lot of time adjusting the carb and finally paddled back to shore , finally rebuilt the carb but that is when we found out it had a cracked block ... Where is this swich located because I think this is the problem beside the cracked block .
Thanks
Hans

un-hook one wire from it, and if no change- start a major tune- up, and check for water in the fuel.

Probably a worn-out shift cable.
Also.
